Mary Lou McDonald is a Irish politician who has been the President of Sinn Féin, a left-wing political party in Ireland, since 2018.

She has been a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament, since 2011, and has served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009.

McDonald has been a strong advocate for Irish reunification and has been heavily involved in the peace process in Northern Ireland.

She was elected as the leader of Sinn Féin following the retirement of Gerry Adams in 2018. McDonald is the first woman to lead the party and looks sure to become the first female leader of the Irish state.
