In the 2020 Irish general election, Sinn Féin received the highest percentage of first-preference votes of any party, with 24.5% of the vote.

This was a significant increase from the 2016 election, where the party received 13.8% of the vote.

The party also won 37 seats in the Dáil, making it the second-largest party in the chamber.

The result was considered as a major breakthrough for the party and its leader Mary Lou McDonald, they did not enter power but look sure to be in power after the next general election which is pinned for 2025.
